G.O. to the D.
Ellen Sebastian Chang was the co-founder and artistic director of LIFE ON THE WATER, a national and internationally known organization producing theatre works at San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center since 1986.
G.O. to the D. evolved from the group's stage production entitled The Black Girl in search of God in East Oakland, a modern adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's 1932 novella. In G.O. to the D. a team of black girls, performing as interviewers explored, from the perspective of teenagers, spirituality and religion in the streets, churches and neighborhoods of Berkeley and Oakland.
