BEFORE BREAKFAST

by Eugene O'Neill

Mrs. Rowland: Catherine Willis
Technical Production by: John Whiting
Adapted and Directed by: Erik Bauersfeld

An unhappy alcoholic housewife complains about her unfaithful alcoholic husband, who listens from the bathroom while shaving. The husband does not appear in the play except for his hand, "a sensitive hand with slender fingers" reaching for a bowl of hot water and moments later his voice groaning as he cuts his throat. At the initial performance, December 1, 1916 by the Playwright's Theatre (NYC), the part of Albert was played by O'Neill himself.
